What's New in CLIP
New Coding Rules
14 new Coding Rules have been published in CLIP as at 15 June 2018, for implementation 1 July 2018. Click here to view them.
Updated Coding Rules
There are 2 Coding Rules that have been updated for implementation 1 July 2018:
- Zika virus; use of the WHO code for emergency use. Z75.3 (Unavailability and inaccessibility of health-care facilities) has been replaced with code Z75.6 (Transfer for suspected condition).
- Single delivery assisted by forceps and McRoberts manoeuvre

ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Public Consutation
Over a 2 year period, ACCD has developed Eleventh Edition proposals to improve the ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS classification. These proposals were
developed with advice by the ICD Technical Group (ITG) which includes
representatives from all the Australian jurisdictions, clinicians, and a range
of public and private stakeholders. We now welcome your feedback. Click here for further information

ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Update
Tenth Edition update
ACCD continues to support the Tenth Edition of ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS through publication of Coding Rules. Please be advised that Errata 4 published 15 March 2018 for implementation 1 April 2018 was the final errata to be released for Tenth Edition.
Eleventh Edition update
The work programme for ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Eleventh Edition continues in its development.
As well as our planned work programme for this development cycle which emanates from public submissions received and coding queries, the mandatory updates to ICD-10-AM and ACHI in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) updates to ICD-10, the Australian Dental Association (ADA) updates and the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) updates are being implemented.
The last ICD Technical Group Meeting for this cycle will be held in August this year to finalise the last of those updates.
ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Eleventh Edition Public Consultation
The first round of ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Eleventh Edition Public Consultation opens 14 June and closes 28 June 2018. The following Addenda Proposals are available during the above period for feedback on the ACCD Classification Access Portal (CAP).
- Epileptic psychosis
- Decreased conscious state
- Anaphylactic shock
- Lymph node dissection
- Allied health interventions
- Syndromes
- Ophthalmology updates Part II
- Respiratory distress syndrome
- Haematoma nontraumatic
The second round of ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Eleventh Edition Public Consultation opens 16 August 2018 and closes 30 August 2018 and will include below Addenda Proposals.
- Review of ACS 0002 Additional diagnoses
- Clinical documentation, abstraction and the entire clinical record
- Personal history of stroke
- Implanted hearing devices
- Obstetrics ICD/ACHI/ACS
- ENT ACHI /ACS review
- Neoplasms ICD/ACHI/ACS
- Wound management
- Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (r-TMS)
- Stereo electroencephalography (SEEG)
- Liver procurement in live donors
Note: Guidelines for coding diabetes mellitus and intermediate hyperglycaemia is still under review by ITG and will be included in the second round of public consultation if the proposal is approved by the ICD Technical Group at the 1 August meeting.
All submissions received will be published on ACCD’s website unless respondents specifically request that their submission be kept confidential due to commercial or other reasons.

Education Update
ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Tenth Edition Education
The ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS Tenth Edition online education program and materials have been relocated to the education section of the website at https://www.accd.net.au/Education.aspx. The tutorial videos (with presentation slides), coding exercise workbook and the reference to changes for Tenth Edition remain accessible from here.
The preparation for the HIMAA NCCH Conference 2018 to be held in Hobart is progressing with abstracts reviewed and the program being finalised. The NCCH would like to ask the clinical coders and HIMs for education topics for consideration in the Clinical Coding Workshop(s).

The NCCH has released a Tenth Edition revision of the Fundamentals of Morbidity Coding which can be ordered here.
